7 good reasons to (re)go to New Zealand #1

Too bad if Rotorua lacks charm. The local Maori tribe museum teaches us all about oral tradition, ancestor worship, hakas and tattoos. After that, it's up to you. We flee (or not) the chain Maori shows to take a look at the Te Puia site which includes, among other things, the school of wood carving, the Maori tradition. Rotten egg smell? It emanates from the geothermal site, a strange landscape of geysers, the best known of which, Pohutu, sometimes wakes up once or twice an hour, up to 30 m high! On the volcano side, you have to take a closer look at the Tarawera which engulfed the village in 1886. Since then, it has been sleeping, culminating at 1,111 m high on Maori land, which you can access with a guide (www. kaitiaki.co. nz). That day, the wind was blowing so hard that the "first in line" clung to the backpack of the guide, a red-haired Maori with porcelain skin. Up there, the landscapes are breathtaking. In the evening, the Polynesian Spa treats tired muscles to its therapeutic natural spring waters.

Where do we sleep? At the Rydges Hotel, a large comfortable structure (more for groups).
