5 things to know to upgrade on a plane

When we buy an economy class ticket, we all have a small hope that when we check in, the hostess will offer us first class seats. Well, the problem is that it always happens to others but never to us. Skyscanner employees therefore give us some advice to give a little help to chance. Obviously, these tricks do not work every time (and it always takes a good dose of luck for it to work) but who does not try nothing has nothing, right? Here are 5 things to know to hope to be upgraded.

1. Arrive early at the airport

To put the odds on our side and hope to be upgraded, we can try to show up early at the airport. And by early, we don't mean two or three hours before the end of the recording. The Skyscanner website strongly suggests arriving 11 hours before departure! In fact, the goal is to be the first to check in on the flight. In this way, if there are a few seats left in business class, there is a small chance that we will be offered them. Well, if that doesn't work, we'll have long hours to kill, without even having the pleasure of enjoying business class...

2. Book off-peak travel

Another solution for those who are not crazy about the interminable wait:travel during off-peak periods. One of the Skyscanner employees suggests booking her flight at times of the year when business class travelers are rare (holidays for example). Logically, there will be more first class seats and who knows, maybe they will benefit us!

3. Adopt an elegant look

We put the tracksuits in the closet, the same for the shorts and the tap shoes, and we adopt an elegant look. No need to overdo it either by bringing out the three-piece suit or the cocktail dress. Just adopt a chic and casual outfit and the case is in the bag. Admittedly, it's less comfortable, but you have to know what you want!

4. Be sympathetic

Sometimes just being nice and smiling is enough to get you outclassed. Andrew Phillips, technical director, data acquisition and reporting at Skyscanner, recounts what happened to him on a flight to the USA:when he boarded, a gentleman was in his seat. Instead of getting upset, Andrew told the flight attendant that he didn't mind sitting anywhere else. Result:she took him to business class. Like what, it doesn't matter!

5. Join the loyalty program

Finally, it is advisable to join the loyalty program of the airlines. Even if we are not the greatest of travelers, Ewan Gray, Asia-Pacific director of Skyscanner explains that club members will always be rewarded. Reductions, advantages, but also more chance of being upgraded. We're going to consider subscribing to it!

There you go, we have all the keys in hand to get upgraded. We just have to hope that luck is on our side and we have the luxury and comfort of business class!
