Amazing Edinburgh #2

Forget “Trainspotting” in Leith

Gone is the sulphurous reputation of this port district of Edinburgh plagued by the crisis and made famous by the film “Trainspotting”. Today, Leith is about to become chic! We do not miss the visit of the "Royal Britannia", the former royal yacht. Exaggerated, but moving... And we continue on the quays lined with trendy restaurants and cafes, warehouses converted into apartments and galleries.

Where to have lunch? At The Ship on the Shore, to enjoy salmon, scallops or fish &chips cooked to perfection.

What to visit? The Custom Lane Gallery (67 Commercial St), an art gallery housed in the premises of the former Customs House.

To consult:The Spirit of Leithers, on Facebook, to know all about the history and the transformations of the district.

Shopping in the charity shops in Stockbridge

Charity shops (especially on Raeburn Place), bobo restaurants… welcome to the “Marais” of Edinburgh, between elegant Victorian-style houses, shared gardens reserved for residents and art galleries, such as Patriot Hall Gallery.

Where to have lunch? At The Scran and Scallie, a gastro-pub run by Michelin stars.

Where to have a drink? Opposite, at The Raeburn, a former family home converted into a boutique hotel, overlooking the gardens of the select and gothic Fettes College.

Here we go!

• Sleep at the Ibis Styles St Andrew Square, in a former bank. Top notch reception, listed facade, stylish decor between classic tartan and fluorescent neon lights, absolute calm just a stone's throw from the "places to be"... we love it! From €177 per night, breakfast included. And also:the Adagio residence, in Old Town. Tribal practice.
