Get Ready for the 2012 Film Festival: Dates, Deals, and My Top Picks

The Film Festival returns from June 24th to 27th—a fantastic opportunity to catch great movies at unbeatable prices.

I've missed the Film Festival for three years, so this time, rain or shine, I'm dedicating two full days to the cinema. After the disappointments at Cannes this year, I'm eager to make up for it with some cinematic gems.

1. How the Event Works

Your first ticket is at the regular price, but every additional film is just €2.50. For me, that's two movies a day over four days—saving €25 by June 24th. After eight films, I'll be hooked.

2. Why I Love the Film Festival

This event lets me take risks with my film choices. At €2.50 a ticket, it's easy to experiment without regret—though I aim to avoid eight misses! The best tip? Check the crowds' reactions as they exit the theaters.

Starting on a Sunday (June 24th), there's no excuse to skip it. Head there after work on weekdays if needed. When you love cinema, you make time.

Bonus: It wraps up on Wednesday, premiere day, offering even more fresh releases to discover—or revisit favorites.

3. My Personal Selection

I'm a passionate cinephile, not a critic, and my tastes might raise eyebrows—but at €2.50, who cares?

- Le Grand Soir, as a huge fan of Kervern and Delépine, I won't miss their latest.

- Prometheus, channeling my Alien-obsessed teens and love for visionary sci-fi—in moderation.

- Ich bin eine Terroristin, for its cathartic revolutionary vibe and political-historical insights.

- Farewell Berthe, for wild laughs and my admiration for Valérie Lemercier and Denis Podalydès.

- Starbuck, hooked by the premise: "As he prepares to be a father, 42-year-old eternal teen David Wosniak learns he's the anonymous dad of 533 kids seeking him out." (Releases June 27)

- Wrong, blending quirky madness and poetry—irresistible. (Releases June 27)

Choices will be tough, as always. Fingers crossed for holdovers like On the Road, Moonrise Kingdom, De Rouille et d'os, and more. As André Gide said, "To choose is to renounce."
