As a family with young children, we spent a weekend immersed in its luxury for Mamsatwork—and we were hooked from the start.

Currently, only one third of the holiday park is complete, but the ambitious plans promise something extraordinary. Far from a cookie-cutter resort, Dormio envisions a self-contained village featuring a vibrant central square with terraces, a café, food court, supermarket, kids' corner, and panoramic restaurant. A state-of-the-art sports and fitness club with swimming pool anchors the experience, adjacent to a 27-hole golf complex. Guests can choose from stylish apartments or luxurious holiday homes, each with a distinctive classic architectural flair—from detached farms and stately notary houses to craft cottages accommodating 4 to 20 people.
As we crested the first hills of Limburg's landscape, that familiar holiday buzz set in. It feels like a slice of abroad right in the Netherlands—close enough to the Belgian border that your phone might switch networks. A quick pass through Maastricht leads along a quiet country road past residential areas into serene countryside. Suddenly, the city fades, replaced by lush trees, open fields, and peace... until you enter what feels like a charming village: Resort Maastricht.
At reception in the brasserie, we received a warm welcome and details on available facilities. We opted for fresh, healthy breakfast deliveries (pro tip: "buns" here mean hard rolls; pistolets are the soft ones). Free access to Club Pellikaan's modern sports and swimming facilities beckoned, but our agenda was packed with other delights.
Our home for the weekend was the Merchant's House for 6 at Dukdalf nr. 41. From the outset, it impressed with its elegant architecture, thoughtful design, and impeccable furnishings. Spacious and brand new, every detail was considered: three generous bedrooms, a bathroom to envy, and a top-tier kitchen.
A cot, high chair, and stair gate ensured safety for our little ones.
We appreciated the plush covered beds and ample beach towels—small touches that elevate the stay.
French doors opened to a expansive terrace, with hedge-lined paths separating gardens and leading to a brand-new playground (the kids wasted no time turning its pristine sand into a masterpiece). While full facilities are still developing, daily fresh breakfasts, sumptuous accommodations (those beds!), and responsive service more than compensated. When our smoke detector acted up, staff arrived promptly and resolved it seamlessly.
What captivated us most was the park's architectural harmony: grand detached homes, village-like streets with names and numbers, pavements, and layout. It's cozy, inviting, and quintessentially Burgundian—outdoor living at its finest.
Astonishingly, Maastricht's vibrant city center is just minutes away—we've biked to the Vrijthof in 10 minutes, even with three small kids and a stroller. It's perfect for a Sunday check-out: brunch, shopping, then homeward bound.
The day prior, we tired them out with local adventures suited for families. Highlights include the border triangle, Maastricht and Valkenburg caves, playgrounds like Fort Willem, and museums such as the Natural History Museum. Within an hour, reach German and Belgian cities or parks like Toverland and GaiaZOO.
With our children's ages in mind, we headed to Valkenburg's Fairytale Forest—ideal for toddlers, with sunny play spots galore. Content, we returned to our village haven at Dukdalf nr. 41.
