A Censuswide study commissioned by Trainline, a leading online train ticket provider, uncovers distinct differences in vacation habits among French travelers, with men and women approaching trips differently.
Contrary to common stereotypes, French men outspend women on holidays. According to the survey, men average €644 for domestic stays, compared to €590 for women. For international trips, spending rises to €2,440 for men and €2,109 for women—a 15% gap that challenges clichés about spending habits.
The study highlights varying motivations: Women prioritize visiting family and friends for domestic trips, while men focus on discovering new places. Abroad, both genders align on exploring destinations, sightseeing, and enjoying nature. Preferences for companions are similar too, with family trips favored (47.8% women, 41% men) over couples' getaways (32.6% women, 39% men). Notably, men report stronger influence from social platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and Snapchat when choosing destinations. Women, meanwhile, plan ahead more, booking 3-6 months in advance (32%) versus men (24.8%).
