5 reasons to choose a Norwegian ski destination

When we go on winter sports, we often choose the well-known winter sports areas such as Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland. But have you ever thought about Norway? Skiing is the same for Norwegians as cycling for the Dutch:part of life. This mindset makes Norway ideally suited for a winter sports holiday with the whole family. Not only do kids ski there for free, but Norwegian winter sports areas such as Skeikampen and Voss and Myrkdalen in Fjord Norway also offer snow security, quiet slopes and authentic accommodations right next to the slopes, just a few hours away from the Netherlands. So do you want something different? Here are five reasons why you should go for a skiing holiday in Norway this year!

1. Snow security and long winter sports season
Although climate change has an impact worldwide, Norwegian ski areas rarely have to contend with too little snow. The high snow security and the good quality of the Norwegian snow offer a golden combination that guarantees ultimate winter sports fun. And the period is yours to choose; many Norwegian ski destinations offer good skiing conditions at both Christmas and Easter with a winter season that runs from November to May.

2. Winter paradise for families with children
Children are king in Norwegian ski centers. Everywhere children up to the age of eight ski for free and are offered a helmet free of charge. In addition, the Norwegian ski resorts are equipped with children's facilities such as crèches, play activities and defined areas where children can practice their skiing skills in peace.

3. Ski-in/ski-out accommodations with self catering
Many accommodations, both hotels and mountain huts, are located directly on the slopes. Your ski day starts right outside the door, which is extra nice for the kids. In addition, you can opt for self-catering at most accommodations, so that you can easily keep costs low. The authentic look of the Norwegian accommodations makes the cozy winter experience completely complete.

4. Peace and space
If you go skiing in Norway, you don't have to worry about crowded slopes. Untouched nature and spacious, extensive slopes characterize the landscape. So no lines or busy lifts, but only snow-covered mountain and treetops around you and crunching fresh snow under your slats.

5. Good accessibility
Norway is easily and quickly accessible even in winter. From Amsterdam you fly daily in less than two hours to Norwegian hubs such as Bergen and Oslo. Don't like it on the plane? Then take the Fjord Line ferry by car that will take you from the European mainland to Stavanger or Bergen in Fjord Norway. From Oslo, most Norwegian ski areas can be reached within four hours by car. There are also good train and bus connections with the major ski areas.
