A Fairytale London Weekend: Snowy Shopping at Harrods and a Surprise Proposal

I toss my suitcase onto the neatly made bed and fling open the curtains. Snowflakes dance outside. "Honey, it's shiveringly cold," I say. My husband eyes my shoes. "Those aren't made for snow. You packed something warmer, right?"

"Of course," I reply. "I'm not stepping out for the first time unprepared." I pull my snow boots from the suitcase and kick off my heels. "Ta-da! What do you think? Ready to conquer our shopping weekend in London?"

Harrods: The Department Store of My Dreams

I stomp the snow off my boots as I step into Harrods. This iconic shopping paradise is breathtakingly vast and beautiful—a true Valhalla for any shopper.

Make my day.

My husband jogs to catch up, teasing that I'd never run that fast otherwise. I barely hear him, mesmerized by the splendor. "Honey, you hit the men's section, and I'll tackle women's?" He smirks, following anyway. "Am I not good enough to advise?"

All Beehives Stacked on Top of Each Other

Harrods, London's legendary department store, spans seven floors across an entire city block, brimming with luxury brands like Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent. It's so enchanting, I need a moment to soak it all in. For scale: Imagine stacking every floor of the Netherlands' Bijenkorf department stores—that's Harrods' total space.

Do I make myself clear?

Lost in the Maze

Exploring every inch means serious cardio, and post-workout, I crave fuel. Harrods' food halls are legendary, but the signage is a labyrinth. I can't see the forest for the trees—or rather, the departments for the displays.

"Hold on," my husband says over the phone. I wait as my lifesaver arrives: the man I've loved for a year, the one I know I'll spend forever with. Not yet my husband, but I've sensed something brewing all week...

My Life as a Fairytale with My Prince Charming

"We need to head back to the hotel soon," he insists. "I've booked a restaurant, and we should dress up. Since you change outfits a dozen times, let's start makeup early. And we'll grab a drink at the hotel first."

We nearly argue over his stress, but I hold my tongue for peace.

And Then the Moment Arrives

A champagne toast, and suddenly he's on one knee. "What are you doing?" I gasp, feigning surprise. Fairytales do exist—and this one was ours.

Nearly seven years later, we're still going strong. I saw in Grazia that Patrick Kluivert proposed again after ten years—with a massive ring. [Hint hint!]

Fairytale addict? Guilty. We're heading back to London this April—for shopping, naturally 😉
