6 tips for your Seville city trip

The largest city in the south of Spain has a rich history, many sights and within a three-hour flight you can already enjoy the Andalusian sun! Seville is not yet overrun with tourists and that is precisely what makes a city trip to this place so much fun (and these tips of course). In addition, this city offers a huge variety of buildings and works of art. Children can enter almost everywhere for free, which also makes the city ideal for a city trip with the whole family!

Here are our 6 tips for a city trip to Seville, where the first step is booking. Tip for booking a weekend in Seville is to look at Stedentrips.nl. Here you can search in one go with your desired date to book hotel and flight. This way you can be sure that you will catch a quick direct flight and that you will end up in a nice and well-maintained hotel.

1. Real Alcázar, the royal palace and its gardens

The Moors have left a big mark on Seville and that is clearly reflected in the Real Alcázar. Get lost in the royal palace and wander through the rooms with colorful Moorish mosaics. Immerse yourself in the tropical atmosphere by taking a walk in the palace gardens. The garden is full of palm trees and in the fall mandarins and oranges grow on the trees. There is so much to see and walk through that even a visit to the palace is interesting for small children.

Real Alcázar is the most popular attraction in Seville, so these tips are worth it for your city trip, but there can also be long lines. With a Skip the Line ticket, which you can purchase online, you can walk right past it! It is slightly more expensive than at the cash register (€10.50 cash price, €12.00 online), but children up to and including 16 years old are free.

2. Plaza de España and the Maria Luisa Park

In the summer and also in the spring, the temperature in Seville can rise considerably. Escape the heat and seek shade in Maria Luisa Park. Or catch some refreshment at the fountains in Plaza de España. The city park of Seville is full of flowers and trees, playgrounds and you can rent a bike at the beginning of the park. Located on this park is Plaza de España, a gigantic and beautiful crescent-shaped building.

The building was built in honor of the Ibero-American Exposition (1929) to make symbolic peace with former colonies. Now it serves as a government building. In front of the building is a large square, which is often bustling with street performers and with a bit of luck you will find dancers performing the traditional Flamenco dance.

3. Metrosol Parasol, a special viewpoint in Seville; must-see tips during your city trip

This special work of art is still very young compared to the rest of the buildings in the city. Inspired by Gaudi's architectural style, the Metrosol Parasol was opened in 2011. The wooden construction is a special sight from the ground up. With an elevator you can go up and you will be treated to a beautiful 360 degree view over Seville.

On top of the 'mushroom' you can follow a small walking route. Don't forget to bring your sunglasses, because of the almost white color the sun is quite bright.

Price:€3 / children free.

4. The Cathedral of Seville, one of the tips for your city trip

Right in the center of Seville, near the royal palace, you will find the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede. You should not miss this Gothic cathedral when you book a trip to Seville. In addition to the cathedral itself, where you can find the tomb of Columbus, you can also climb the bell tower. La Girada used to be a minaret of a mosque, but now serves as a bell tower. Don't feel like climbing stairs? That is not necessary! You walk up a wide, sloping corridor. They used to go up on horseback to ring the bells. Not only beautiful to see, so this tip, but also a great story to tell your children during this city trip to Seville.

Price:€8 / free for children up to and including 16 years.

5. The Dutch way through Seville, quickly and easily exploring

Especially with small children, the bicycle is an excellent means of transport to explore Seville during your city trip. Several bicycle rental companies offer bicycles with child seats, which you can take with you for free. In addition, you can easily cover longer distances and see a lot of the city itself. Cycle past the sights above, add the bullring Plaza de Toros and you have a super nice impression of Seville!

Tip:there are also bike tours that you can book in, among others, Dutch (Baja Bikes). This is a fun activity at the start of your city trip, so you get even more fun facts and useful tips about Seville. You will cycle past all the sights and if you visit the cathedral the next day, you will already know a lot more about it. You can also ask for nice places to eat. There is a good chance that you will end up at an unknown, super cozy restaurant where you can eat delicious! The locals know just that little bit more.

Price tour (Baja Bikes):€25 pp / children in the back seat for free

6. Wandering around the Jewish neighborhood without a map

One of my favorite things (and tips) to do during a city trip is to walk around without a map or Google Maps, that's what I did in Seville. The Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz is ideal for this. Through a gate next to Real Alcázar you dive into the narrow alleys that are filled with charming shops and cozy eateries. If you are still looking for a hotel, it is recommended to look for something in this area or just outside it. In any case, the capital of Andalusia is a surprising and above all beautiful old city to visit!

Are you planning to go to Seville? Or are you still looking for a nice destination? You can also find an overview of the best destinations for spring on Stedentrips.nl. Seville is of course also included in this list. In any case, know that a city trip to Seville is highly recommended and that this city is my favorite city in Spain.
