In the absence of laws prohibiting ticket sales for activities harming animal welfare, TripAdvisor has independently decided to end this practice. Experiences like petting tigers, riding elephants, or swimming with dolphins are no longer bookable on the platform.
Announced on October 11 alongside its booking partner Viator, this pivotal move has earned praise from leading advocates, including the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and PETA. PETA publicly congratulated TripAdvisor on Twitter. To build on this, the platform will launch an educational hub on animal welfare in tourism destinations.
This represents a significant advancement in ethical travel.
