Charles Kuonen Bridge: The World's Longest Suspension Bridge in Switzerland

Spanning Switzerland's deepest valley at Grabengufer, near the base of Dom—the highest peak in Valais—the Charles Kuonen Bridge in Randa measures an impressive 494 meters long and stands 85 meters tall. As the longest suspension bridge globally, it was closed in 2010 due to collapse risks but has since been fully rebuilt, delighting thrill-seeking hikers.

Saves Precious Time

Without it, hikers faced a grueling 500-meter detour through the valley with steep descents, ascents, and descents again—risking fatigue or injury. Once a deterrent for tourists, the bridge was revitalized by Randa's municipality and named after lead investor Charles Kuonen. At 65 cm wide, 85 m high, and 494 m long, it's no place for those prone to vertigo. Designed to handle sways and jolts, a sudden gust can still test your nerves...
