Winter holidays are underway, giving families ample time for relaxation and adventure during this two-week break. Capturing and sharing these moments has become second nature for many French travelers. But what are the real photography and social media habits of French people on vacation? Travel search engine Kayak surveyed 1,000 adults over 18, uncovering some eye-opening trends. French vacationers snap an average of 42 photos per day—totaling around 300 over a week. While 63% wait until they're home to share with loved ones, 30% post directly on social networks. Surprisingly, 35% prefer printing their shots, including 45% of those under 35 and 26% over 55, showing a resurgence of analog charm among younger generations.
Selfies reign supreme, with 78% of French travelers taking at least one daily. Nearly one in three (28%) capture more than 10 per day, led by 18-24-year-olds who average 20. We recommend the 18% of young travelers spending over an hour perfecting that ideal shot to also savor the scenery and company—missing out would be a pity. Not everyone loves the photo frenzy: 41% get frustrated with partners glued to their cameras, and 15% specifically over selfies. Smartphones dominate thanks to advanced tech, edging out DSLRs favored by 33%. About 10%—those analog fans—opt for disposable or reusable film cameras.
Social media amplifies these moments, especially for under-45s who share about four photos daily. These posts primarily inspire friends (28%) but can stir jealousy in others (8%). For a small group, travel and sharing are intertwined: 6% say photos are pointless without posting, and 8% claim vacations aren't worth it without online shares. Sound familiar? Whether you're already away or gearing up, enjoy safe travels!
