Tips for your first family holiday

Are you planning your first vacation with your kids? We are happy to help you! Here are some tips to make your first holiday as a family that little bit easier.

Don't try to do it all yourself
Flights, transfers, accommodation, excursions – planning a holiday is more than just a click of the mouse! Save yourself the stress and use a reputable travel agency or tour operator. When you book with an agency affiliated with a recognized industry association, you can rest easy knowing they'll be there for you should anything go wrong during your trip.

Make sure you are insured
As we all know, sometimes things don't always go well when traveling. Bad weather, flight cancellations and lost luggage are things that are unfortunately out of your control. So make sure you have travel insurance that covers you in all these cases.

Choose kids' clubs
Choosing an accommodation with a kids' club ensures that you as a parent have some time to spare during your vacation. It also allows your kids to socialize and make friends – a very important aspect of any holiday! Are you traveling with teenagers? Try to choose accommodation that also has something for them.

Prepare for the airport and the plane
The trick to avoiding any drama at the airport is to keep your kids entertained! For the little ones, that means snacks, toys, tablets, books or whatever they like to use to keep themselves entertained. Let the older kids download their favorite Netflix movies or shows to their phone or tablet.

Also think about the plane – comfortable clothes, earplugs and candies for takeoff and landing are all smart things to have on hand.

Choose an apartment
Smart parents know that an apartment is best. When it comes to vacationing with your kids, it's always good to be able to keep them in some sort of routine. Having a washing machine in your accommodation means less clothes in a suitcase and being able to make snacks for hungry mouths whenever you want makes life a little easier too!

Invest in a good camera
If there's one thing you'll be using on any vacation, it's a good camera. Having photos to look back on for years to come is something every member of the family enjoys. You don't have to be an expert to take great photos. A waterproof model can also result in some very nice photos and videos!
