Elst

We have been living in Elst with our family since July. A nice village with about 21,000 inhabitants in Gelderland. With Arnhem and Nijmegen within easy reach, you can enjoy rural living, without having to miss the convenience of the city. Surrounded by farms but with a village center (Dorpstraat) where you will find numerous shops and supermarkets, it is a beautiful area. Wonderful to cycle through and enjoy.

You can tell that it is a village from a number of things. First of all, the people here are incredibly friendly and helpful. We have lived for years in The Hague, where people seem to have been hunted. What a relief it is when you end up in a village like Elst. The atmosphere is friendly, the many terraces are always full and everyone is nice.

Elst is mainly known because the Four Days Marches passes through this village on the first day. Visitors can enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants or lunchrooms, go out by bike or visit the church museum (temple)  .

Hulzen cafe and lunchroom in Elst

The Hulzen cafeteria and lunchroom in Elst can be found in the Dorpstraat. The cafeteria features a few tables with outside seating, a few seats on the ground floor and tables with chairs on the first floor. At the top you have a magnificent view over the shopping street and you can enjoy your food in peace.

Are you coming with small children? No problem, they can have fun at the table with Duplo. There is a children's menu especially for children!

Upstairs you will also find clean toilets (separate for men and women) and a coat rack where you can hang your coat. You can pass your order downstairs, but they will also come to the table to take the order. You have a drink within a few minutes and you don't have to wait long for the food.

Incidentally, you can not only eat extensive here. A snack in between, a cup of coffee with apple pie or a delicious ice cream, they have it all.

They also sell gluten free products. Ask at the counter or the waitress. If you have an allergy, you can also let us know. This will be taken into account when preparing the food.

Our experience

During a morning of shopping it turned out to be too late to cycle home for lunch. On a whim, we decided to visit the cafeteria and lunchroom van Hulzen in Elst. The menu is very extensive and the prices are reasonable. The first time eating here was so good that we have already gone back twice. Once with the whole family and once alone with my husband and our daughter.

The last time we were there, I was determined this time to take pictures and write an article about it (all at my own expense). That evening we enjoyed several plate menus. With these plates you get a portion of fries, raw vegetable salad and mayonnaise in addition to the meat. My daughter chose a hamburger, hubby chose a Jägerschnitzel and I chose satay. Of course we also included drinks. The portions are quite large, fresh and delicious.

Our daughter didn't finish her plate or rather, she didn't want to eat it all. She tasted a scoop of double Swiss chocolate ice cream the first time and was completely blown away. By not completely finishing her plate, there was still room for a scoop of delicious ice cream.

We give cafeteria and lunchroom Van Hulzen in Elst a big 9.
