We've discovered a standout spot: Anemos Greek Restaurant in Elst. Seeking authentic Greek cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere? Anemos delivers. With extra time, explore Elst—a charming village between Arnhem and Nijmegen, perfect for shopping and nature escapes.
Elst often flies under the radar, but that's a missed opportunity. This delightful Gelderland village buzzes with activities, especially in summer—like the Nijmegen Four Days Marches passing right through. Browse abundant shops, dine at diverse eateries, and note its booming housing market, rivaling Amsterdam.
In spring and summer, weekends feature markets (like the massive free Liège flea market with 250+ stalls), festivals, and more—far from any sleepy rural outpost.
Surrounding Park Lingezegen offers extensive hiking and cycling trails stretching to Arnhem, plus a petting zoo and skating spots for families.
Elst's dining scene shines with Asian, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Dutch, French options, snack bars, and cafes—all affordable and local. We've enjoyed Hulzen's cafeteria multiple times; now, discover another favorite: Anemos Greek Restaurant.
On Saturday, June 30, 2018, celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary, we dined at Anemos while the kids were occupied—a rare date night.
Compact from the street, Anemos seats 150+ inside. The decor blends luxurious American vibes on one side with warm Southern European charm on the other. Open less than a year but consistently packed—a clear sign of quality.
Ample staff, including owner and family, ensure smooth service. Centrally located near Dorpsstraat with easy parking; overflow at the rear by Jumbo and Aldi.
Nice weather? Opt for outdoor seating (though recent heat waves challenged comfort). Tables accommodate couples to groups of 20.
Greek portions are famously hearty, so we skipped starters for mains: hubby's vegetarian Chef's Surprise (stuffed peppers, Greek rice, abundant veggies) and my Souvlaki Platter (2 souvlaki, gyros, rice, tzatziki, fries). Both included unlimited salad buffet access.
The buffet featured five large tubs: classic Greek coleslaw, potato salad, chickpea salad, seasoned tomatoes/cucumbers/pepperoni, and more. We sampled generously.
Observing neighbors' plates confirmed generous, appetizing servings. Drinks ordered promptly upon seating; mains arrived in under 10 minutes. Service was friendly, attentive—the owner personally checked on us.
Total: €38 for two Spa Red drinks and mains—excellent value. Satisfied, we tipped to €45. Hearty with the salad bar; we'll return with family.
