Bubble Maze Arnhem: Our Family's Honest Review of Bubble Tea Delights

Looking for a fresh alternative to Starbucks? My daughter and I visited Bubble Maze in Arnhem to discover this bubble tea hotspot. Here's our firsthand take on the service, menu, and inviting atmosphere.

Why Arnhem?

Arnhem is renowned for its rich history, including WWII events, and Vitesse football club. Shopaholics love its vibrant city center, blending major chains with boutique gems. Foodies thrive here too, with diverse eateries from Bistro Cafe Robin Hood to international cuisines like Italian, Greek, Argentinian, and Japanese. Bubble Maze stands out for its extensive bubble tea selection.

What Exactly is Bubble Tea?

Bubble tea originated in Taiwan and is surging in popularity. It's chilled tea flavored to your liking, often with milk or yogurt for a smoothie-like twist. Shaken to create bubbles, it's topped with tapioca pearls—chewy 'bubbles' made from cassava flour that add a unique texture with minimal flavor.

Bubble Maze Arnhem: The Spot

Located at Jansplaats 18 (note: they're relocating—check back for updates), Bubble Maze greets you with cheerful wall art and a fresh, appealing space. Enjoy indoors, on the outdoor terrace in good weather, or use the spotless toilet. We received a warm invite, a detailed demo, and a kitchen tour, revealing their process and premium ingredients.

The menu focuses on bubble tea, with hot options in winter and summer additions like homemade milkshakes and ice creams in flavors such as Nutella, Oreo, and Bueno. They use Possmei fruit syrups (a global bubble tea standard) supplemented by Monin, brewed daily from green and black teas. Customize with iced tea, milk tea, or yogurt blends; sizes S, M, L, or duo flavors; plus toppings.

Our Tasting Experience

We sampled across categories. My daughter chose:

  • Honeydew iced tea
  • Japanese matcha milk tea
  • Milk chocolate cookies
  • Green apple yogurt

Without tapioca (out of stock, and she's allergic to pineapple version), we tried tutti frutti and lychee jello. Favorites: honeydew iced tea and chocolate cookies—bold, sweet flavors (heads up for sweetness lovers). We shared with family; my husband enjoyed the chocolate cookie despite its intensity.

Ice creams impressed too: Nutella for her, Bueno for me—creamy, not overly sweet, even on a chilly October day. Hot drinks available seasonally make it a year-round pick for tea enthusiasts seeking a Starbucks alternative.
