Arnhem boasts a lively city center packed with diverse shops, from popular chains like Primark, SoLow, Lucardi, and Hema to unique independent boutiques. Beyond shopping, the city shines with a variety of restaurants, cafés, and lunch spots offering Greek, Mexican, Italian, Indonesian, and more—all at reasonable prices for an enjoyable night out.
Arnhem also excels for entertainment, with cinemas and theaters near the station, plus plenty of options for families, young people, and students. We love visiting for shopping (especially with our teenage daughter) and dining, which led us to Bistro Café Robin Hood for a memorable lunch—and later, dinner.
Located on Willemsplein near the station, Bistro Café Robin Hood offers outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade and shelter. The interior is stylishly themed around its name, featuring warm wooden accents, a large wooden horse, artwork, candles, soft lighting, and faux windows for added charm. The central bar ties it all together, and the spotless, separate restrooms for men and women are at the rear.
Our first visit was spontaneous after a school event for our daughter. The €9.50 lunch special for Wiener Schnitzel caught our eye. We ordered that, plus the Robin Hood lunch plate for her, and were impressed by the generous portions served with fresh salad and fries. The surprise? Complimentary coffee or tea after the bill.
Buoyed by this, we returned for our daughter's 16th birthday dinner. Everyone chose different dishes, including the Wiener Schnitzel again, and portions were ample and delicious. Noting the occasion, staff cleared plates then presented a festive surprise: a massive sundae with ice cream, tiramisu, fruit, and warm pears in sauce, accompanied by the birthday song from staff and guests. Our shy teen loved it, and we enjoyed house drinks too.
Service was impeccable throughout. We later learned complimentary coffee or tea is standard post-meal—a thoughtful touch. Bistro Café Robin Hood earns a solid 9/10 from us. Highly recommended and worth repeat visits.
