Discover tavern 't Wetshuys, a beloved Almelo hotspot where history meets hearty meals. This cozy venue boasts an extensive menu perfect for delicious lunches—and it's one of the city's three official wedding locations, easy to find in the heart of town.
Dating back to 1691, the striking building once housed Almelo's town hall and courtroom, later serving as a police station and traffic house. Since 1972, it's been a restaurant, with its name 't Wetshuys reflecting its storied past tied to local law and water history.
Recognizing its monumental status, the municipality of Almelo designated it as a prime wedding venue. The top floor transforms into a wedding hall, or host just the ceremony here for an intimate affair.
Blending heritage with hospitality, 't Wetshuys thrives as a convivial café and tavern. Enjoy the large terrace overlooking the bustling shopping street, with ample options for brunch, lunch, or dinner on the extensive menu.
As local food explorers, my family recently visited—my daughter, her boyfriend, and his parents—for a birthday lunch. She was thrilled by the allergy accommodations (she manages a peanut allergy) and the welcoming vibe, earning it hotspot status in our book. Her firsthand account: the menu shone during lunch hour. We opted for shawarma with fries and garnish, roast beef sandwiches, and shawarma sandwiches (doubled up for the group), paired with refreshing drinks.
Service was impeccable—attentive, efficient, with no long waits. Food arrived hot and flavorful. The terrace looked inviting, but rain sent us inside to the simple yet warm decor, which felt just right.
Lunch hit the spot, but dinner tempts too: a three-course meal for only €17.50.
