Tommes Gasthaus zur Mühle in Winterberg: A Relaxing Spa Getaway with Real Guest Experience

Planning a winter sports trip and seeking a comfortable stay? I highly recommend Tommes Gasthaus zur Mühle in Winterberg. Beyond the guesthouse, there's an adjacent hotel offering extra luxury.

Land- und Kurhotel Tommes

Located just a few kilometers from Winterberg in Schmallenberg, Land- und Kurhotel Tommes is more than a hotel—it's a premier wellness and spa resort. Guests flock here not only for winter sports but for holistic relaxation. Facilities include a swimming pool, massages, saunas, and more. It's an ideal discreet retreat for physical and mental rejuvenation, set amid stunning mountain scenery—no formal treatments required.

Tommes Gasthaus zur Mühle in Winterberg

Last year, I stayed here with my daughter during a Winterberg visit. With hotel rooms fully booked, we opted for this charming guesthouse, a short walk from the hotel. As guests, we enjoyed full access to the hotel's complimentary amenities, including breakfast. The double room was spotlessly clean, with thoughtful touches like complimentary bath slippers, daily bottled water, and bathrobes. Hallways were simpler than the hotel's, but the value was unbeatable.

We dined at the hotel on arrival—reasonable prices, generous portions, and attentive service. Our table was reserved for the entire stay. Breakfast featured an abundant buffet with fresh, healthy options; staff even brought coffee and tea to your seat.

Photography is restricted in the spa areas for privacy, so I have few images. It's family-friendly too, with plenty of guests including young children.

Our plan was skiing, but crowded slopes and my daughter's impatience shifted focus. After a brief attempt (I managed two runs), she fell ill, confining her to the room for a day. I ordered restaurant meals in, and she swam once while I enjoyed solo laps.

Der Heilstollen

As someone who battles frequent migraines (I've shared my experiences before), the hotel's Heilstollen—a therapeutic cave—caught my eye. Its mineral-rich water and environment detoxify the body, neutralize free radicals, and promote healing. Free for hotel and guesthouse guests, sessions run every half hour.

Guided inside, you sit on a plastic chair at 8°C with 100% humidity, covered by mats against dripping water. Sip the beneficial water in complete silence, save for drips. My daughter and I both felt remarkably refreshed afterward. Regular visitors report relief from asthma, bronchitis, allergies, even serious conditions like cancer—though it's not for everyone, and you can exit if needed.

For best results, daily visits over weeks or months are ideal. My single session provided a welcome reset.
