5 tips for traveling well with your pet

When planning a trip, we are often faced with the same dilemma:leave our pet with someone or take it with us on vacation? If you opt for the second option, we give you some advice so that everything goes as well as possible.

1. A check at the vet

Before taking Nestor somewhere, we first check with our usual veterinarian. Because, in some countries our animal must be examined between 24 and 120 hours before our return in order to administer a deworming tablet. The veterinarian will then specify it in his passport.

2. Do not neglect the electronic chip

In some countries - like France - it is mandatory to identify your animal. Since 2011, the microchip has also been compulsory and it is absolutely forbidden to travel outside the territory with an unidentified animal, for health reasons and to fight against animal trafficking. When traveling, the electronic chip is essential since it includes all our contact details. This way, if our little companion gets lost, we can be contacted easily.

3. Opt for a soft-sided carrying bag

If our animal is small, we choose a transport bag with soft sides so that it fits easily on the seats, near us.

4. In case of air travel, anticipate and notify the airline

We call the airline before booking to make sure they accept animals and that they will leave us enough space for a transport bag in front of our seat. Before a long flight, it is not given food or water. During, if our animal travels near us, we can give him from time to time a kibble or a small cube of ice.

5. Don't forget the leash

Useful for walks in National Parks and essential for public transport, don't forget to bring a leash.
