Top 10 Best and Worst Countries for Expats: InterNations Expat Insider Ranking

Relocating abroad can transform your life, opening doors to new experiences and career opportunities. But selecting the right destination is key to success. InterNations' annual "Expat Insider" survey ranks 65 countries based on expat feedback across factors like local friendliness, leisure activities, cost of living, safety, and work-life balance. The results often surprise.

Bahrain Tops the Ranking

And the winner is Bahrain! This Persian Gulf archipelago west of Qatar excels with its stunning landscapes and plentiful professional opportunities. Costa Rica takes second, followed by Mexico and Taiwan. Portugal ranks fifth as one of the safest for foreigners, trailed by New Zealand and Malta—both strong for work-life balance and job security. Colombia is eighth, then Singapore, and Spain completes the top 10 with its friendly, relaxed atmosphere. These countries also make expats feel most welcome.
At the bottom: Turkey (56th), India, Qatar, Ukraine, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Nigeria, Kuwait, and Greece. Economic challenges and quality-of-life issues drag them down. France ranks 38th—we hope for better in future surveys. Ready to relocate?
