We tested:the new Club Lookéa Kiwengwa Beach Resort, in Zanzibar

Where is it?

Off Tanzania, on the northeast coast of Zanzibar, or more precisely Unguja Island, the main island of the archipelago.

Why is it good?

Who has not dreamed of one day discovering Zanzibar, this “destination powerfully evocative of travel”, as Pascal de Izaguirre, CEO of TUI France, pointed out during the inauguration of the Club Lookéa Kiwengwa Beach Resort on December 2? With its 153 rooms only (including 30 reserved for the Lookéa), the Club Lookéa Kiwengwa Beach Resort offers an ideal setting for discovering this dream destination:respect for the local culture and architecture (makuti roofs, etc.), lush gardens and long white sand beach, spacious rooms with balcony… The pluses? The Jacuzzi® bar on the beach, to admire the sunset while savoring a cocktail comfortably seated in its bubble bath. And the superb spa with sauna, hammam, Turkish bath and fitness room with large bay windows overlooking the lush vegetation of the club.

What do we do there?

You can enjoy swimming in the Indian Ocean at high tide, and swimming pools (an animated pool, a zen seawater pool) at low tide. We let ourselves be carried away by the professionalism and motivation of the facilitators to get moving (muscle awakening, fitness, beach volleyball, etc.), have fun (aquafun, etc.), refocus (yoga, meditation, etc.), cultivate ourselves (Swahili lessons , cooking workshops…).

What do we eat there?

Fresh fruit from the garden and homemade jams, among other things, at breakfast in the main restaurant, Le Pilipili. Local specialties (samoussas, biryani, pilau rice, etc.) at dinner at the African restaurant Le Mbuzzi or seafood right on the water at the Dow. A third restaurant on stilts, currently under construction, will soon allow dining over the Indian Ocean.

What are we visiting around?

We go in search of red colobus monkeys, an endemic species, in the Jozani forest, the only National Park on the island (and we find them!). Cinnamon, curry, cardamom, cloves, but also breadfruit, Jack Fruit, coconut, red bananas, mangoes, pineapple:we enjoy the scents and flavors of a Spice Tour in a farm with spices. And of course, we visit Stone Town, the "city of stone" listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famous for its heavy wooden doors carved in the African or Indian style and its houses made of coral stone, for the pleasure of lose yourself in alleys where time seems to have no hold, where churches adjoin mosques, and Sultan's palaces the former home of Freddy Mercury. We do not hesitate to seek advice from the 100% French-speaking Lookéa delegate who is present daily and takes great care to guide us in the choice of possible excursions.
