Exploring remote destinations is a lifelong dream for many travelers, but lengthy journeys and layovers often deter even the most adventurous. The good news? Aviation innovators are stepping up. According to Bloomberg, Australia's Qantas Airways is advancing plans for a direct flight from London to Sydney, potentially launching in 2022. CEO Alan Joyce has challenged Boeing and Airbus to engineer an aircraft for this ambitious 20-hour nonstop route, with promising developments underway.
The aircraft would seat about 300 passengers plus luggage, with sufficient fuel for headwinds and emergencies. To make the ultra-long flight enjoyable, Qantas envisions innovative amenities like a gym, bunk beds, nursery services, a bar, and relaxation areas. "We want to be where we are not expected. Additional spaces for activities such as exercise, a bar, a crèche, bunks, a rest room—what do you think? Boeing and Airbus have been very creative on this one. I think we will get there and the plane will be operational in 2022," Joyce explained. Aviation enthusiasts can't wait to board.
