Zeeland stands out as the top choice for Dutch vacationers planning summer getaways close to home. Last year, it trailed Limburg in second place, but this summer, the coastal province has surged to number one. Noord-Holland and Overijssel now share second, with Limburg holding third and edging out Friesland from the top three. These insights come from recent Casamundo research, a trusted authority in vacation trends.
Dutch travelers are also staying longer at domestic destinations this year. The average duration rose from five days last year to six days this summer of 2016. Short breaks are gaining traction, now accounting for 28% of trips, though a full week remains the preference for most. Families and couples show equal enthusiasm (both at 35%), narrowing the gap from last year's family lead of 42%. Larger groups of family or friends trail just behind.
