How Camping and Caravanning Boost Happiness, Health, and Family Bonds – Research-Backed Insights

Make '24 hours outdoors' a top New Year's resolution. New research reveals campers are happier, healthier, less stressed, and enjoy more quality time with loved ones. A survey shows 93% of campers agree camping boosts happiness, with nearly half of non-campers concurring. Meanwhile, 97% of campers cherish the lasting memories it creates, and 76% report high life satisfaction—compared to just 59% of non-campers. Plus, 70% view camping and caravanning as ideal for forging new friendships, including 'friends for life' for 40%. Campers praise it as a social equalizer, accessible to all incomes.

85% of adult campers believe it enhances health, especially those 55+, who feel fitter than non-campers. Even 79% of young non-campers enjoy it, with one in three noting health improvements.

Studies confirm camping strengthens family ties—eight in ten campers say it brings families closer. 91% of children report feeling happy spending outdoor time with parents. Camped kids are far more likely to fly kites, climb trees, and cook over campfires.

73% of adults insist every child should camp, and 46% of campers see behavior improvements. Parents highlight benefits like safe freedom, tech detox, simple outdoor living, family bonding, community values, social skills, and exploring new places and cultures.

Parents also note educational gains: 82% say it broadens horizons, fosters independent thinking, teaches nature (like geology), and sparks classroom stories. 52% of tent campers see cooking's learning value, 77% spot new skills gained, and 60% of non-campers agree.
