Travel trends 2019:off the beaten track

It's almost the end of the year so it's time to look at the different trends for the new year. Pinterest also researched the travel trends for 2019; from atypical destinations to unusual (and more earth-friendly) modes of transport. We list them here.

Bus travel is all the rage: Whether it's a one-day tour or getting from Caracas to Patagonia, frugal travelers get on the bus.

Hot springs: People find recovery and relaxation in hot springs – from high-end resorts to nature.

Game of stones: Travelers beat the lines at Versailles and search for divine, abandoned and dilapidated castles.

No man's island: Well-known islands are no longer in! Instead, people head to less-traveled islands for that rare pura vida experience.

A good bike tour: Enthusiasts and casual cyclists alike are trying bike rides – plus, all that cardio means more food on the go.

Destination unknown: Gather a group, clear their calendars, keep the ending point unknown, and practice yelling “Surprise!”

Out-of-the-way cities: People are looking for small towns for their rural views, unique BnBs and quiet small hotels.

Don't waste: “Zero waste travel” means strategically and sustainably packing, eating and even staying overnight.

A beautiful autumn: Sipping hot cider, falling fall leaves… it's no wonder people fall for fall.

Oh Rio, Rio: the Summer Olympics may be over, but Rio still has the sand, the city, and the carnival.
