A family holiday to Curaçao is truly magical. With its tropical climate, the island offers pleasant temperatures year-round, though brief showers are possible in fall. On our trip with our then almost-three-year-old son Luc and in-laws (before our daughter Lotte was born), we visited in late September without a drop of rain.

Initially, I worried about taking our young child to Curaçao, but reflecting on it now, it was far simpler than expected. The main challenge is the flight, as traveling with toddlers can be unpredictable.
Direct flights take about 10 hours. Preparation is key for long-haul travel with kids—pack entertainment, and opt for nighttime flights to align with their sleep schedules. Luc, nearly three at the time, stayed busy with our toys and the plane's offerings. Let them stretch their legs occasionally; fellow passengers are understanding on family trips like these.
Once there, Curaçao shines for families. Zoos, playgrounds, and beaches provide endless fun—kids thrive with sand, shells, and sunshine, whether in March or autumn. We stayed at Breezes Resort (now Sunscape Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino), each family in private apartments. This setup was ideal for Luc's naps, allowing undisturbed rest before evening adventures.
Sunscape offers a private beach in a calm bay perfect for safe splashing and snorkeling, plus three pools including a kids' pool, kids' club, teen club, playground, and daily animations. Luc preferred beach time, but we ventured out often, like to Willemstad—details below.
All-inclusive simplifies family travel here. Sunscape stands out with four à la carte restaurants (Japanese teppanyaki, Italian, and more) alongside buffets—no extra fees. Daytime snacks and unlimited drinks, including poolside bars, add luxury. We'd return in a heartbeat; Lotte eagerly awaits her turn after our stories.
We chose Curaçao for its idyllic climate, white sands, turquoise waters, and dolphin sightings. It lived up to the hype—only drawbacks are cost and flight time, but worth it. For best visit timing, check Bestereistijd.nl. Highlights include:
From expansive shores to hidden coves, Curaçao has it all—many free, some paid. Snorkel or dive anywhere; we spotted ~100 wild dolphins from our bay, an unforgettable thrill.
Switch from beaches to adventure: guided or self-drive jeeps to caves, reserves, and more coves.
Colorful Dutch architecture, the iconic Pontoon Bridge, cruise ships, markets, and eateries capture Curaçao's essence.
These hits spark joy and education—dolphin shows thrill most kids, aquariums teach ocean life, zoos delight universally.
Blend relaxation, culture, and adventure. Families stay engaged amid Curaçao's diverse offerings.
For a 10-day minimum stay to fully immerse (accounting for travel), expect premium costs. Closer alternative: Tenerife for sun without the haul.
