As holiday pay season arrives, many wonder: what do Dutch workers do with this bonus? A recent Zoover survey of over 8,000 respondents reveals that more than half (51%) don't use it for vacations—only 37% do, while 12% receive none. Among vacation spenders, just 34% allocate it to summer trips, and 60% say it's never enough to cover the full cost.
For the rest, saving or investing tops the list: 48% of men and 42% of women set it aside. This preference holds across all ages and income levels, showcasing prudent financial habits among the Dutch.
Others add it to everyday funds (17%), with young adults (18-24, 28%) and seniors (over 75, 26%) leading. About 10% fund big-ticket items like appliances or cars, and 5% tackle debts.
Notably, 85% book trips without waiting for the payout. Still, 60% favor receiving it in May, followed by January, as a quarter use that timing to book holidays.
