Singapore Airlines is redefining ultra-long-haul travel with its new direct flight from Singapore to Newark Liberty International Airport, lasting 18 hours and 45 minutes. Starting October 18, this route will operate three times weekly, claiming the title of the world's longest commercial flight.
By comparison, the shortest scheduled commercial flight is Loganair's under-two-minute hop between Westray and Papa Westray, two Scottish islands. No sooner have you settled in than you've arrived!
Singapore Airlines will be the first to deploy the Airbus A350-900ULR, with expanded fuel tanks, lightweight carbon fiber surpassing aluminum in strength-to-weight ratio, and fuel-efficient twin engines versus conventional four-engine designs. This yields a range of nearly 18,000 km. The cabin accommodates 161 passengers: 67 in business class and 94 in premium economy.
Targeting business travelers, Newark offers seamless access to Manhattan and northern New Jersey.
Passenger comfort is paramount, with premium seats, soaring ceilings, expansive windows, a wider fuselage, and an LED lighting system to minimize jet lag on this nearly 19-hour journey.
It eclipses the prior record of 17 hours 40 minutes, set by Qatar Airways' Boeing 777-200LR from Doha to Auckland, New Zealand.
