Dutch Holiday Habits: Relaxation Reigns Supreme, Per D-Reizen Survey

According to a D-Reizen survey marking its 50th anniversary—polling over 1,000 Dutch respondents—90% of Dutch people take at least one holiday annually, typically with partners or family. If choosing a celebrity travel companion, women pick Floortje Dessing, while men opt for Geraldine Kemper. Relaxation overwhelmingly tops the reasons for vacationing. Those in their 30s value quality time together, and over-65s are the most adventurous, eager to explore new cultures and destinations. Key to a great trip? A stunning natural setting, comfortable lodging, and a nearby beach. Young adults (21-30) especially prioritize beautiful surroundings. Notably, many prefer fewer fellow Dutch tourists over reliable WiFi.

Looking ahead, safety will gain prominence, particularly for those over 55. Younger travelers under 30 foresee emphasis on sustainability and more vacation days. Ideal future spots include sustainable havens and off-the-beaten-path gems away from crowds. Space tourism? Not yet—only 2% fancy the moon. Preferred future transport: supersonic planes or electric cars. Time travel remains sci-fi, but if possible, most would revisit childhood over cosmic adventures. Men and youth also eye ancient Rome.
