The Dutch prefer a sun holiday over family dinner during holidays

If given the choice, more than four in ten Dutch people would rather spend their holidays in a sunny destination than at Christmas dinner with their relatives. On average 30% still doubt whether they would rather go on a winter sun holiday than share a four-course Christmas dinner with their family members and 29% would rather exchange a sun holiday for a four-course dinner with the family. 10% of those surveyed actually celebrate the upcoming holidays in the sun. Curacao and the Canary Islands are the most popular destinations. This is apparent from research conducted by Corendon.

The coming Christmas and New Years are celebrated by about one in ten Dutch people or avoided at a winter sun destination. About 2% only celebrate the turn of the year in a sun-drenched country, on average 4% only celebrate Christmas. Another 4% celebrate both Christmas and New Years on winter sun holidays. By the way, the favorite month to go on a winter sun holiday is not December with 23%, but the month of February.

A small part of the holidaymakers (1%) don't really care where the winter sun trip goes, as long as the sun is shining and it is warm. A quarter of the Dutch people designate Curaçao as the ultimate winter sun destination. On average 18% opt for the mild winter sun on the Canary Islands.
