Our Family's Unforgettable Glamping Weekend in a Safari Tent on the Veluwe

I initially puzzled over how Glamping Nunspeet operates, but after experiencing it firsthand, I'm thoroughly impressed. It's uniquely structured yet delivers exceptional results. Here's our honest account of staying in one of their safari tents nestled in the Veluwe woodlands.

Glamping Nunspeet at its best

A glamping weekend in the Veluwe? Our family couldn't resist. Right after our daughter Lotte's 9th birthday party last Friday, we packed up—including our dog—for an adventure at Glamping Nunspeet. Pet-inclusive getaways like this are rare and made it extra special.

Arriving late Friday evening in Nunspeet

We couldn't miss Lotte's birthday—she celebrated with panda cupcakes at school and a home party for friends and family. To maximize our glamping time, we departed late Friday after the festivities. Luggage pre-packed, we hit the road.

Arriving at 10 p.m. at Camping de Scheepsbel in Nunspeet, we felt instantly welcome. Cozy reception lights glowed, and manager Alex personally provided our barrier pass, showed us the facilities, and guided us to the Tiger safari tent. Outstanding service!

Safari tent the Tiger of Glamping Nunspeet

Camping de Scheepsbel hosts three Glamping Nunspeet safari tents: Tiger (ours), Zebra, and Leopard—all sleeping six. Fully equipped with comforts like plush beds (essential for true glamping), a flat-screen TV with DVD player, heater, and complete kitchenware—including a cheese slicer and corkscrew, details often overlooked elsewhere.

The Tiger tent's stylish furnishings create a warm ambiance, enhanced by thoughtful lighting. Arriving after dark, we were delighted by the setup: doors open, exterior lights on the table, and interior glow—courtesy of owner Rosalie Verhoef. Perfect evening welcome!

Personal touch in the safari tent

Beyond the lights, a custom welcome note on a balloon and a small gift for Lotte made us feel at home. Thoughtful gestures like these elevate the stay. We toasted the end of the party, savoring the tranquility—our dog thrilled too, with his own doggy bag treat!

Retiring to bed, we eagerly anticipated day two. Morning light revealed the tent's charm (see photo). Bonus: a bamboo planter with fresh herbs for cooking.

Dog along on holiday at Glamping Nunspeet

Bringing our dog Ca$h was a joy, despite early wake-ups. The prime perk? Direct forest access from the tent, including Zandverstuiving De Haere trail. Early morning walks at the quiet site were magical as the campsite stirred.

After exploring with Ca$h, I grabbed fresh rolls from reception (dog-friendly entry allowed). Glamping Nunspeet's dog-loving owners align perfectly with Veluwe's trails.

What is the charm of camping de Scheepsbel?

While Glamping Nunspeet is separate from Camping de Scheepsbel, the site's amenities shape your stay. Glamping has three tents here and more at Witte Wieven.

De Scheepsbel's eclectic mix of unique private mobile homes and fenced pitches fosters a cozy, homey vibe. Our tent's enclosure suited kids and pets perfectly.

Swimming pool at the campsite

The pools aren't massive but ample: main pool, big slide (fun for Luc and Ca$h—see photo), and toddler area with toys. Sunny weather had us splashing post-breakfast. Initially cool, the water warms quickly. Ample loungers, but our poolside tent spot was ideal.

Playground at the campsite

Multiple play areas, including a large one near our tent, pool, and restaurant—perfect for terrace supervision.

Catering and camping shop

Poolside Restaurant de Serre offers appealing meals (we missed it this trip—next time!). A snack bar suits casual bites. Reception's small shop stocks essentials like morning bread, drinks, and spreads; Nunspeet for more.

Children's farm and indoor playground

Near reception: petting zoo with deer, goats, and pony rides (even to your tent!). Indoor play for rainy days—unused, thankfully.

Toiletries and sanitary facilities

No private facilities in tents; use the site's spotless, heated showers and toilets—fine even in cooler weather. Note: proximity to highway means some traffic noise; best for those okay with mild sounds.

Prefer traditional tent camping on the Veluwe? Absolutely possible too.

What is there to do in the vicinity of Glamping Nunspeet?

Endless options! Our short weekend meant prioritizing, but the area's beauty shone through.

Visit Elburg

Saturday late afternoon, we explored Elburg (8km away), dog in tow. Strolling the historic fortress walls, enjoying ice cream amid festival music (we love events like Mandala or Fields of Joy). Harbor views, terrace time—worth returning for fresh fish like our last visit 8 years ago.

Walking around the Veluwemeer

With 30°C heat and kids, we opted for a lakeside stroll. Beaches buzzed; €5 all-day parking makes it accessible.

What else can you do here around Nunspeet?

Our itinerary filled fast, leaving tent relaxation and family bonding. Reception lists attractions; nearby Apeldoorn offers Apenheul, climbing forest, Paleis Het Loo. Kampen, Harderwijk Dolphinarium too. Glamping Nunspeet's site has more ideas.

We loved our hosted Glamping Nunspeet weekend, thanks to the owners' personal touches. Highly recommended based on our real experience.
