7 good reasons to (re)go to New Zealand #2

Let's have fun between sky, land and sea in Raglan

This is where the surfers go. “The rocks make waves that are cleaner than on the sand, and they are very long,” explains a Frenchman, mop of hair wet and a board under his arm. He works in the kitchen at The Shack, a good place in the area. Many Frenchies stop here for the waves, and get around… by hitchhiking. Nothing could be easier as the atmosphere is good-natured. Raglan is also the starting point for beautiful treks to Mount Kariori with steep drops. Two paths lead there, which end with a (real) ladder to the sky! There, the view between land, sky and sea is spectacular. The alternative to hiking? Kayaking with the Raglan Scenic Tours agency.

Where do we sleep? At Solscape, in an old train carriage, a teepee, a cabin… (www.solscape.co.nz).

Where are we having dinner? At Bow Street Depot, on a sunny terrace (www.bowstreetdepot.co.nz).
