Off in Tilburg and surroundings

In June we went to Tilburg for the May market (yes, it is held in June). This was a flea market that started in the evening and lasted all night until the following afternoon. For us it was not possible to drive up and down to Arnhem, so we booked a night at the NH hotel in Waalwijk. Because we were there early in the evening we had to have dinner somewhere. After a lot of deliberation, we decided to eat Greek.

People who know me know that I love Greek food. This is due to the combination of a lot of meat and fresh salad (usually buffet style). Moreover, I love Tzatziki, something that I can eat just like that, without any extras 😉  And so after some searching we ended up at Greek restaurant Santorini in Waalwijk. Nice and close to the hotel, affordable judging by the menu.

The restaurant is located near the shopping street in the heart of Waalwijk. It is a small and intimate restaurant that can also be found not far from the Efteling. On presentation of your ticket you will receive a 15% discount on your total bill. Nice to visit after a day at Efelting. The inside is typically Greek with a well-stocked bar at the end. Some of the tables are separated by a large aquarium, so that there is a little more privacy between the tables. A nice addition that gives the whole something playful.

Don't feel like sitting there at the table? They also have a takeaway menu, so you can enjoy Greek food at home or wherever you are.

Our experience restaurant Santorini in Waalwijk

As mentioned, we ate in this restaurant in June. The first thing that struck me was the fact that they were actually Greeks running the restaurant. Which is nice, I think that underlines the authenticity of a restaurant. The menu is extensive and there is enough for both fish and meat lovers. Vegetarians will also get their money's worth in this restaurant. When I go to the Greek I always order a mixed dish with several types of meat, I like that best. As standard, Greek rice and fries are served with it.

In this restaurant you get fries per 2 people, so keep that in mind. Unfortunately they didn't have a salad buffet here. I like to put together my own salad, but okay, here we were served salad at the table, again per 2 people. Now I have to say that the portions were very different. My mixplate was actually very generous as far as the meat was concerned. The rice was very scanty and the tzatziki unfortunately too. My daughter's fish casserole was disappointing. There was only 1 prawn in the whole dish while the menu says with large prawns (plural). The vegetarian moussaka dish was also disappointing in terms of quantity. Ideal if you are not a big eater, but otherwise this is not enough. The food was tasty and fresh. As far as the price is concerned, I thought it was not too bad, the restaurant is not more expensive or cheaper than other Greek restaurants.
